American Red Cross Swimming Lessons

2008 Fall and Winter Swim Lesson Schedule

The American Red Cross revamped the Learn-to-Swim program in 2004. The new skill levels are based, in part, on a child’s progression through the previous level.

Various levels of swimming lessons will be taught again at TRC this summer. We will offer morning and evening classes, each with a required minimum of 4 students registered and paid for each class. We will not register more than 7 for a class, with 6 as the optimum number. Waiting lists will be maintained, and additional classes will be scheduled if instructors are available. We cannot guarantee that you will get the desired time for class if you are on the waiting list. You will be notified on the Sunday preceding the start of the class if your child is not enrolled in the class, or to find out if we can substitute another time.

We will ask each child to perform certain skills on the first day of class to ensure proper placement of the student, because they could easily have forgotten skills that they had mastered last summer or new skills in the new program. We want the children in each class to be as similar in skills (not necessarily in age) as possible. Please do not feel hurt if your child is placed in another class.

We have planned four sessions of two weeks, some will have 10 days of lessons, some only 8 or 9 days. There is also a "Head Start" and a "Wrap-up" session of only one week (5 lessons). Holidays and other Club activities determine the number of days in a session.

Both Private and Semi-Private lessons (2 children only) for members only are available any time after 11am weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday. All private lessons must be arranged through Tuckahoe. Availability of instructors could be limited at certain times.

You must pay for the child when you register at the front desk. Only paid registrants are guaranteed a place in the class, and instructors are assigned when 4 children are paid for any class. Please do not register a child for two classes in one session. We will put the child in the correct class.
