2008 Fall and Winter Swim Lesson Schedule

Swim Team

Tuckahoe Aquatics is pleased to offer its winter swim program beginning November 1st and running through May 2008. This program is for members 14 and under who are interested in weekly swim instruction (stroke work, starts and turns, improving speed/efficiency, and conditioning). Practices will be geared toward children who may participate in another sport and/or do not want to commit to a year-round swimming program. The program will help all swimmers get ready for next year’s Tuckahoe summer season as well as help improve their strokes.

This year’s program will be coached by Chris McPhaul. Chris swam and helped coach at Tuckahoe (1973-1984), and he was also a lifeguard and water safety instructor both at TRC and Auburn University. He coached at Sea Devils Swimming and has also coached soccer and baseball in Montgomery County. He is currently active in the Montgomery County Swim League, where he officiates and cheers for his children. The winter program coaching staff will also include Austin Auger, Caitlyn Auger, Sarah Eule, and Megan Howard.

The program will take place on Sunday evenings (6–7 pm for 8 and under swimmers and 7–8 pm for 9 and older swimmers) and Thursdays (5-6 pm for all ages). Space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $225 per child with discounts for multiple family members. There is an additional $100 fee for children who want to swim on Thursday AND Sunday.

Please contact Chris McPhaul at cmcphaul1@yahoo.com or 301-767-9747 for the registration form and/or any questions.

Dive Team

Tuckahoe will be offering a winter dive clinic for members on Sunday afternoons from 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. There will be two sessions of the clinic: the fall session will run from mid-October through late January, and the spring session will run from early February through early May. Registration for the spring session will give preference to those already registered in the fall session.

The clinic is intended to help current divers maintain what they’ve learned this past season, and also to introduce new divers to proper diving technique and safety. No diving experience is necessary, but participants must be able to swim a single length of the pool unassisted and to jump off the 1-meter (low) diving board. The clinic is open to those aged 5-18. Cost for the program is $110 per session (fall and spring are billed separately.)

The winter clinic will be led by a team of experienced divers who are highly skilled in both diving technique and in coaching children: Patrick Whelden, and Samantha Winter. SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, so if you’re interested, please send an e-mail to Patrick Whelden at pw851@yahoo.com.

The TRC Diving Tigers just completed a fun and challenging season in Division II. We are looking forward to a great season in 2008 with both new and returning divers. The Winter Dive Clinic is a great place to keep up your skills, or to see if diving might be for you!!
